Authentic Murdick recipes!  Murdick’s Famous Fudge is the only Murdick’s fudge store in the Mackinac Straits area that is actually owned and operated by the Murdick family descendants. Aaron and John Murdick make 400-600 lbs. of fudge daily during the summer months in their Mackinaw City store. Murdicks opened the very first fudge store on Mackinac Island in 1887.  WE in NO way are connected to any other Murdick Fudge stores, including those on Mackinac Island, Mackinaw Crossings, Petoskey, and St. Ignace. In November of 2014, John and Aaron Murdick opened a sister store in Frankenmuth, Michigan.  This store is now owned by John’s sister KarenAnn Murdick.  It remains a family owned Murdick’s Fudge store today.

The year was 1887.  The Grand Hotel opened for business on Mackinac Island.  So did Murdick’s FudgeMurdicks developed a name and reputation for the creamiest and most delectable fudge that anyone had ever tasted.  This knowledge of knowing how to make the best fudge in the world has been passed down for five generations of MurdicksNewton Jerome Murdick developed the process of cooking fudge in a copper kettle, cooling it on a marble slab and creaming it until set, enabling it to retain it’s creamy texture.

At Murdick’s Famous Fudge you will be guaranteed fresh fudge, made with the authentic Murdick recipes, as well as hand-pulled, homemade salt-water taffy.  Turtles, made with caramel from the age-old recipes handed down from that first generation of Murdicks, are still a favorite.  Other hand-dipped candies are sold here as well.  Homemade Peanut Brittle and Cashew Brittle are also made in store.

Fudge is so popular in the Mackinac Straits area that tourists have become known as “fudgies”–an endeared term used by the local residents.  Every year, “fudgies” flock to the area to pick up their fudge, white fish, and pasties (not pay -stees) to bring home to family and friends.  It makes the perfect small gift for babysitters, dog sitters, neighbors, teachers, coaches, mailmen and friends.  Not only does it make the perfect Michigan Made gift for out-of-towners, but it is a nice way to say thank you, get well, happy birthday or happy any day!  Getting  mail orders of fudge ready for the mail, is a daily duty of the clerks at Murdick’s Famous Fudge.  Christmas time is especially busy when people place special orders to dress up their Christmas tables!  Nothing dresses up a Christmas table better than a platter of creamy, bite sized bite sized pieces of Murdick’s Famous Fudge!  And nothing says “Made in Michigan” more than Murdick’s Fudge!

At Murdick’s Famous Fudge, the clerks and candy makers are the friendliest people in town.  Customers comment on the smiles and service they receive while in the store on Central Avenue.  Reviews on Murdick’s Famous Fudge can be read at https://www.facebook.com/murdicksfudge?sk=reviews.  Below are just a couple of the many positive reviews found on that page.

I took a trip with my siblings over the weekend to Mackinaw City and Mackinaw Island. We were looking for good fudge at a good price, but couldn’t find a shop we liked. We had gone to several shops before finding Murdick’s Famous Fudge. Next time we are in Mackinaw this will be our only stop for fudge. The fudge is amazing. I’m not going to try to describe the taste because I don’t think I would do the fudge justice…it’s that good! Besides the taste, I loved the environment. You can tell it’s family owned and operated because of the way the employees act. They are happy, smiling, and thrilled to help whoever needs it. It’s literally one big happy family! We got the special of $6/slice. It costs a little bit more than a few other places, but who cares when the ingredients are quality ingredients? You’re wasting your time if you go to another fudge shop.

We visited Mackinac Island and Mackinac City this past weekend. I tried fudge at many different places. The fudge I had at Aaron Murdick’s (Famous Fudge) was by far the best. The competition was not even close. I know a lot of the places try to follow traditional recipes and preparation methods but they are missing something that these guys aren’t. I don’t know what that is, but the fudge flavor and consistency speaks for itself.
